Once this site is up and operational, I will transfer from here to there. In the meantime, I will keep everyone updated as things progress.

3, 2, 1 . . . . We have LIFTOFF!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally have a minute to put the review and giveaway here.

The author, Judy Heathcoe, of the book I reviewed below, has provided us some goodies for a giveaway.

The Rod

The Rod by Judy Johns Heathcoe is an interesting book with a more interesting premise.

The story starts a little slow as it gets bogged down in the minutia of character descriptions.
However, it picks up rapidly after the first few pages, so much so that at times you don't even
realize you are holding your breath until you have to exhale.

The story centers primarily on two characters: Heath Morgan and Harland McGowan.
Heath Morgan, a security guard, is a family man; he is married with three stepdaughters, which
includes a set of twins.  His wife, Julie, met and later married him after a frightening experience
involving one of her children.

Harland McGowan is an archaeologist who stumbles across what he believes to be Moses' staff,
or rod, if you will - hence the title of the book.

The book opens with Heath and his family stopping at the estate sale of the now deceased
Harland McGowan. Heath finds what he thinks is a great walking stick and decides to buy it.
Soon he realizes there is something different about this "stick" when he tries to saw it down to a
more manageable size. He is unable to, because the wood is strong as steel and causes the saw to jerk away, injuring his arm in the process. Beginning at this point, more and more strange things occur in Heath's life, each involving the rod.

From the point of Heath's purchase the action really begins. The story is written from Heath's
and Harland's perspectives. Heath's is in current day; Harland's is from the 1970's. I don't want
to give away too much of the book, but it is a remarkable story. Plan to take several hours out
of your day; because once you get into the story, you won't want to put it down until you are
finished.

Harland McGowan is one of the few students at Pepperdine University in California chosen to
go on an archaeological dig for a Field Project in Jordan. While on the project Harland stumbles
across the grave of Moses and comes away with Moses’ rod. Harland, too, experiences many
bizarre episodes caused by the rod.

My apologies to Judy, an author friend, I had promised several months ago to read and blog
about her book. Due to numerous family emergencies, I was unable to until now.  Judy, I want to
thank you for your patience and understanding during this trying time.

Disclaimer:
Though The Rod has some strong Christian themes, it is not primarily a Christian book. There
are a few curse words scattered throughout, selling of drugs and allusions to drug use that may be
bothersome to some readers.

Giveaway goodies include:
A FREE copy of the book, The Rod
A Coffee Mug with the cover of the book on the front
Several small packages of ground coffee
Several packages of flavored tea bags

Mea Culpa Again!

I have to offer my heartfelt apologies. The best laid plans. . .

Even the Bible teaches us:

James 4:13-14
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

I went on a small trip to visit my youngest daughter with all intentions of being back on Saturday (Late PM or early Sun AM). It didn't work that way!

I became extremely ill in the early hours of Friday morning. Saturday I was still sick, so Sunday I went to the ER. Found out I had three infections and one had absolutely NO symptoms, just showed up in the routine tests they ran. And with three infections raging through my body (1 that always causes fevers) I had my normal no temp, temperature of 94.6. And that's not a typo or from having had a cold drink-my normal temp runs around 94.6 to 94.8. I only remember once that it got up to 99 and that was when I had the flu some 9 or 10 years ago.

My family left Saturday anyway (dd had to work Monday) thus leaving me to struggle with a flight out on Monday, while still very sick and extremely weak.  I met and received help from several kind and compassionate co-travelers. At one plane change we had to exit on the tarmac and I was barely able to get out of my seat. A kind older gentleman helped me from my seat and down the stairs to the tarmac, arranged for an employee to get my carry-on and then escort me to the elevator so I did not have to traverse the long tarmac and climb 4 flights of stairs. Then, my escort was kind enough to carry my luggage to the waiting area of the airport. Another kind person at the first lay-over saw me struggling and commandeered a wheel chair and wheeled me to my gate; which happened to be 1 concourse and 42 gates from where our plane disembarked (this, even though the next flight was on the same airlines).

I also met the sweetest young lady from New Orleans (HI, if you're reading this!). We exchanged e-mails and I gave her my blog address, too. We both love baking and with the holidays coming up I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas with her.

This ended up longer than I anticipated and I'm still feeling weak. I will post the information on the giveaway tomorrow or the next day; Lord willing. I'm still awaiting one of the basket prizes.
